Semaglutide
Also known as Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus.
What it is
Semaglutide is a GLP-1 receptor agonist: a synthetic version of a gut hormone the body already makes. It has completed the full path from laboratory research to approved medicine, and is available as Ozempic and Rybelsus for type 2 diabetes and as Wegovy for weight management.
It is the compound that brought peptides into mainstream conversation, and a useful reference point for understanding every other entry in this book.
